SeptumStrip
The SeptumStrip is developed to be used in tympanoplasty using the butterfly technique. This is a thin piece of cartilage which can be implanted to close the perforation of the tympanic membrane. The advantages:
- Suitable for anterior and posterior perforations
- High mechanical integrity
- Higher graft integration rate
- Good clinical results
SeptumStrip is costal cartilage which is pre-shaped and ready for use in the tympanic membrane. It is biocompatible and studies shown that the results of this product are comparable to using autologous fascia temporalis in large perforations[3]. It is suitable for primary and revision surgery.
The SeptumStrip is developed for using the butterfly technique in myringoplasty. A systematic review concluded that the cartilage graft showed a higher graft incorporation compared to temporalis fascia[4]. Hearing outcomes are comparable for the two groups.
The SeptumStrip is customized for use for myringoplasty as it is pre-shaped and cut so it can be used off the shelve. It is offered freeze dried.
